No older than now

Please take this brief three-question survey about email newsletters from Laura's blog.

[Just a couple more days of the survey above, so be sure to take it if you haven't already!]

Every now and then, aging gets my attention. Someone will voice a concern about it, or will state with authority that once you're past a "certain age" you can expect this and that. Or I'll catch myself evaluating my own potential based on how many times this human body has made the journey around the sun.

But I have a foundational understanding that combats that picture. Christian Science teaches, as someone reminded me yesterday, that time is a human concept. In other words, without the five physical senses, we would not perceive time as happening. Time is just another of the theories we've made up to attempt to explain the material universe, but characteristically, the material universe doesn't make sense and can't really be explained. Spiritual reality is the only explanation of creation.

Once, when contemplating this deeply, the thought came to me: Creation is now.

The thought startled me enough to make me rest on it for a while. Creation is now? What are the ramifications of that? If the moment of creation is now, meaning it has no past, present or future, what does that imply about creation's freshness and wholeness and purity?

With time in the picture, we tend to accept the idea that creation is changing or degrading or—well, getting old. We tend to think of creation as having happened in the dim dark reaches of some prehistoric era. But if there's no time, there's only now. And if there's only now, creation is happening now. We are created now.

This one broad brush of an idea wiped away for me the belief that the past has any hold on me. What we are, right now, and what we experience, right now, is the sum total of our current beliefs about what we are, right now. If we change those beliefs, right now, we can experience transformation, right now. And all we're doing is revealing what is actually there, right now.

So when it comes to aging, it turns out we are exactly as old and as young as right now.

"Time" for the favorite passage (emphasis added):

Infinite Mind creates and governs all, from the mental molecule to infinity. This divine Principle of all expresses Science and art throughout His creation, and the immortality of man and the universe. Creation is ever appearing, and must ever continue to appear from the nature of its inexhaustible source. Mortal sense inverts this appearing and calls ideas material. Thus misinterpreted, the divine idea seems to fall to the level of a human or material belief, called mortal man. But the seed is in itself, only as the divine Mind is All and reproduces all — as Mind is the multiplier, and Mind's infinite idea, man and the universe, is the product. The only intelligence or substance of a thought, a seed, or a flower is God, the creator of it. Mind is the Soul of all. Mind is Life, Truth, and Love which governs all.

I also wanted to include this prayer from a site visitor in Peru:

Hello Dulce Laurita:

I am pouring my heart to you and your country, and I know the Spirit of God, and His Love is prompting His people to spread words of support and love for you. The whole world is praying for you.

You are a nation of people, that always have been of great help to others in need. First to arrive, and to be there, where help was needed. Your kindness, your solidarity, your love and care shown before for others is what is going to bring you now all that you need.

Because of this war thing, some people have a wrong impression from you, but that's not the Truth about who you really are. You are wonderful people, and I know God is taking care of you all. Nothing can separate us from the Love of God. I know it.

Once again, Laurita, keep on trusting God, celebrate Life. You are not alone. We are with you all.
You, together as a nation, are going to come out from this stronger, and even better than before. I know that for sure!

My love and prayers are with you.
