Part VII: Why I am a Christian Scientist

Part I, Part II, Part III, Part IV, Part V, Part VI, Part VII

Let me leave you with one more example where I really felt the presence of the Christ.

I was roller-blading in Southern California, on the bike-path at the beach. Now, I’m no expert at this, but I do enjoy the rhythm and the wind through my hair. The bike path is long and flat and perfect for my level of blading. But then I met my nemesis, a one-inch pebble. I imagine an experienced skater would have recovered, but this stone, when it caught my front wheel, stopped me cold.

And down I went, landing squarely on my tailbone. Winded, I lay there for a moment, and then I found I couldn’t even sit up. I had to crawl off the path into some grass nearby. I was near a park area, and there were many people around, but none of them seemed to have noticed what happened. As I lay on the grass, I became aware that I’d scraped up my arm, but more unnerving was the sensation that I was losing all feeling in my feet and hands.

Now, I had no desire for this to turn into something big, some major injury. I could have called for help, but I didn’t. Instead, as I had so many times before, I turned to God. I just turned to Him100%, with everything I knew and felt about Him. I mentally turned from any concern about my physical condition. I turned from the evidence of the physical senses entirely. I filled my thought with perfect God, which included omnipotent Love, infinite Spirit, unshakable Truth. These concepts became for me more real than what the senses were trying to fool me with.

I remember lying there, convinced of God’s benevolence, even as I looked up at the sky. The sky in Southern California is often clear unbroken blue, and it was that way that day. And it was about all I could see from my vantage point lying flat on the ground. I stared straight up at it, and was filled with a conviction that even as this sky covered all that I could see, God filled all space in my being. There was nothing else for me in those moments of deep, joyful prayer.

I think only a few minutes went by, and I sat up. My hands and feet felt normal again. And suddenly I became aware of a little five year old girl crouching next to me. She looked up at me with big caring eyes and said, “I guess you need some more practice, huh?” Of course this made me laugh! And convinced me even more of God’s loving care for me -- this little one had been watching over me the whole time. I asked her parents for some water to wash off my arm, and got up to skate back home. Later that day I went on a several mile walk with a friend with no problem.

To me, what I felt that day was a clear example of the presence of the Christ. It was the tangible presence of God’s message to me, comforting and healing me. It didn’t just calm me down, it transformed me. It brought harmony where there had been discord a moment before. It brought wellness where there had been pain. It brought light and love, and left me whole, upright and free.

And this is why I practice Christian Science. It’s the best way I know to cultivate and achieve that sense of wholeness that transforms. I love what Mary Baker Eddy writes: “The Christian Science God is universal, eternal, divine Love, which changeth not and causeth no evil, disease, nor death” (Science and Health).

I encourage you to think further about perfect God, perfect creation, and to see yourselves as part of that reality. You have everything you need to overcome the false evidence of the senses, because you are included in that perfect creation.

Laura, this is a lovely testimony. I have been in Christian Science nearly all of my life and have overcome some very difficult beliefs, but I know my understanding of God as the only cause and creator of the universe enables me to meet every challenge.

I am a lifetime Christian Scientist and it is far above anything else my mother gave to me. All it takes is a receptive heart to to understand it. In most places there is at least one church and reading room where you ma talk to a person to get more information, or through Laura's website.

Sincerely,
Susie

You know, I have read each chapter to get a better understanding of what you think Christian Science is, and have come to the conclusion that it is geared toward the healing of ones self. However, If Christian Science practitioners have studied this as in depth as they have and believe to the fullest that they can heal, or simply change their way of perceiving pain; almost transform their thoughts at the very moment pain happens, as you have in several of your chapters, why can they not live forever? And if you say you can live forever, is this something you achieve on your own through realizing that God is perfect and you are created in his image. If this is the case, how do you explain what Jesus did on the cross for our sins. Sins that we know from a very young age ("for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth..." Gen:8:21. I find it a little odd that in your explanation of Christian Science there is no mention of what will happen to you when you die. Do you go to Heaven, or Hell, or does Christian Science not believe in either of these places? If Christian Science does not believe in heaven, or hell, how do you explain the many descriptions offered in the Bible and a well know account of a man talking to Abraham from Hell. The story about the rich man is what I am referencing (Luke 16:19-31). I can sense passion in your words and that is the reason I am writing to you. I challenge you to look more at your Bible for reference rather than someone, or something other than God. You say he is perfect in everything, yet you take the word, or teachings of a so called science and we all know that science can always be changed to meet the demands of someone's mood. Science is way more wrong than they are right and we are always hearing about how some scientist has found evidence that something is bad for us, something another scientist created. Learn what the Bible says and remember that God is perfect and has left you and I this manual to live our lives by. Read these versus: Rom 3:10, Rom 3:23, Rom 6:23, Rom 10:9, Rom 10:13-17, Rom 14:11-12, Titus 3:5, Rev 20:10-15... I wonder if you have ever heard this before. A simple gift that will get you to Heaven-- and it is free to you and I. I ask only that you consider for a moment, if this plan of salvation is not the way into Heaven and I am wrong, you lose nothing and still have a wonderful life in this world. If this plan is true and you don't call upon Jesus, you will have led what you believe to be a spiritual and fulfilling life in this world with nothing but pain and misery in the world to come. I pray that you take a serious look at this and find the truth about what the Bible says. Thanks.

Hi,

I'm kind of new to Christian Science. I have some friends who have a son who is sick and they are in disagreement over his medical treatment. The father, a Christian Scientist, does not want to pursue traditional medical treatment? Does CS prohibit traditional medical treatment in all cases? Is there ever an exception? Do you get "kicked out of the church" if you do pursue traditional western medical treatment? Thanks for your help. Jill

I can answer what happens when you die. I came to Christian Science late in life. I have a passing knowledge of Psi Tech technical remote viewing which our CIA used in the cold war with the Soviet Union (this natural ability we have was re-discovered by Ingo Swann a psychic that can detect and set off quarks)--you don't have to be psychic to use it-but you have to learn protocols to be accurate--this is now available to the world, and they have trv'd various things. Jesus did resurrect, the reason for the crucifixion and resurrection was not only to satisfy some other power figure and "save our souls", but also Bethany and the only thing that happened in Bethany after the Resurrection was Jesus Ascension. Also God was viewed--not a traqce of wrath but Mind and Love and adhesive, cohesive, attraction like mirrors etc...that we don't have a mind, we have separate consciousness, and we all share God's Mind. NOW--when I heard that, I grabbed that odd little book my sister sent me in the mail with a note "I think she is a genius". I've been studying this ever since. years and I've done instant healings on myself. But I can not affect old problems.
YOU NEEDED TO KNOW MY SOURCES ON THIS--AND THEY DO VERY SERIOUS WORK--they checked out a number of people and that included Hiter and Mother Teresa. Everything is the same--each person has a birth angel and a guardian angel--one takes your consciousness and the other your memories--and they are carefully taken to a new body (not reincarnation--so far they have yet to find one person that reincarnated). You know who you are and you have your memories. Demons--most of the time we create our own and we have to process this internally--sometimes it is something else. Angels obviously do exist--they even shut down the worlds nukes one day--too much testing planned at once. The problem was sent to USA to find out what happened and then to this project--and basically the angel said "you can play with your toys, but we will not allow you to spoil the garden". Tell that to the Soviets and China--I think he said he just said "outside agencies" and they took it to mean ET's. GHOSTS--there are none really--what we call ghosts are sluphed off "minds" the part of our consciousness that is left behind and that is usually negative, they are looking to attach themselves to a person or animal--they have memories but do not evolve. they repeat themselves..--I got all this from an interview with psi tech's current president...you can use it to find out your best path optimal trajectory--I prefer to study Christian Science-I am retired.--they are on the internet..
Oh and I remember before I was born and before I was conceived so I believe we are eternal.
YOU CAN NOT DEMONSTRATE WHAT YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND-MBE-WHEN WE DIE WE TAKE OUR KNOWLEDGE WITH US--I WANT THAT KNOWLEDGE!

sorry I mean attraction like magnets and reflective like mirrors--(new keyboard).
mbe means mary baker eddy.
she also said if you do have to get a doctor-make sure he is not a quack. I have told my daughter that she will get her grandson the hearing aid he needs--BUT that she will understand that someday he will go to CS and be healed--even if the medical profession says this is permanent-she at least understands her thoughtsbeliefs can affect his outcome.

I AM JUST PASSING THRU-I WAS LOOKING FOR SOMETHING ELSE AND SAW THAT QUESTION ON DEATH.

I'VE BEEN READING S&H FOR YEARS, I'VE READ THE ORIGINAL 1875, I READ THE ADVANCED CS "THE BLUE BOOK" AND AM NOW READING THE RED BOOK--I KNOW THERE IS NOTHING TO HEAL--BUT THE NIGHTMARE REMAINS--READING GETS DIFFICULT WITH "FLOATERS" I CALL IT DIRTY VISION--AND GLAUCOMA--AND 3 PAIRS OF GLASSES--AND THEN THERE ARE MY BROKEN TEETH AND BONE LOSS IN MY MOUTH...MAKES ME WANT TO GO THRU THE CHANGE CALLED DEATH SOONER THAN LATER. I SHALL KEEP HACKING AWAY. I DID MEET UP WITH AN OLD FRIEND--CS CAME UP--SHE LAUGHED AND SAID THERE ARE MANY DIFFERENT RELIGIONS OUT THERE--I POINTED OUT THAT UNLESS THEY HEAL THE SICK, RAISE THE DEAD AND HEAL SICK WEATHER---THEY ARE FALSE RELIGIONS.

ALL THE BOOKMARK IS UPDATED!
http://thebookmark.com/
I think Anne Beals is brilliant!

my previous post today did not work
so here it is:
I forgot to address Hell. Psi tech viewed Hell and got EARTH.
There are some pretty hellish places on earth--and hellish history--and sickness is hell. A report also mentions that this time here on earth is our "testing ground". So Jesus makes sense when he says the kingdom of heaven will come when women stop having babies. Then we can come directly from our true Parent.

I thank God daily for christian science, mary baker eddy and jesus.

this is a good article to read..I've printed it and put it in my bible--Jesus Resurrecting--you are there. It would be worth the time involved to train to trv for just this one experience.

Bye all. :)

In Prose Works
"Peoples Idea of God" page 10:

Thought is the essence of an
act, and the stronger element of action; even as steam is
more powerful than water, simply because it is more
ethereal. Essences are refinements that lose some materi-
ality; and as we struggle through the cold night of physics,
matter will become vague, and melt into nothing under the
microscope of Mind.
--------
re-read that--your thought is like the steam that drives the engine! Etheral but very powerful.---this brings the Reality home to me--this makes Science "real" to me.--I know there is nothing to heal but the nightmare lingers on--I only hope I can heal myself before I go blind---Rusty
